Tips for surviving busy times and must-have gift ideas
I know I’m not the only one who feels battered by the time it’s mid-December.
Too much socialising, too much working, not enough rest blah blah blah…
So, as the year comes to an end I thought I’d share some of my favourite tools and tips for surviving this super busy and bountiful time of year.
Don’t go to everything you are invited to.
Your liver, brain and sanity will thank you. I pick four things in December, and I often cancel one! I dress up, make an effort and leave early.
Invest in really good statement pieces to wear that make you feel amazing. Then wear them for years. My chosen items are gold trousers, a sparkly skirt, gold boots and huge chunky necklace. Not all at once obviously. But I’ve had them all a while, spent money on getting them right, and I dress them down for a subtle nod to the C word.
Buy less.
Seriously why do we still stress about crap pressies for everyone. In my gift guide at the end of this post are some really special things to gift those that you love the most, whatever time of year it is #don’tbuysh*tgifts
Make my detox drink everyday.
You’ll need a large jug (1 litre min)
· A pestle and mortar
· Lemon zest and juice
· Thumb-sized piece of ginger peeled and chopped
· Really good honey
· Himalayan salt
· Mineral water
Bash the ginger in the pestle and mortar. Add to the jug with the lemon zest + juice.
Add a tsp of the best honey you can get. Fill to the top with water and mix in 2 tsp of Himalayan salt.
Stir it all up. And enjoy this hangover helper, pre-tox and great immunity booster all in one.
Eat well.
I don’t tend to over eat on Christmas Day. I’m usually cooking and hosting, so I’m too busy to eat (no surprises there then!). But I have my indulgence rituals.
I buy a chocolate chip panettone every year (this one is my current fave). I have a decent slice with Champagne around 11am. And I make buckwheat, crème fraiche blinis every year for canapés. This recipe from Foods 52 for blinis is my go-to. Topped with goodies from the RMB larder obvs.
Then by Boxing Day I’m back to my normal way of eating again.
Switch off.
I really do switch off from the business during these festive days. For me, it’s probably the only time I can go fully OOO, and I absolutely have to.
My friend Sarah and I go on a massive walk on Boxing Day. It’s always SO good to get out and rant. I also try to go out dancing, I did Glitterbox on NYD a few years back. So. Much. Fun.
Rebecca Loves…gift guide
These are just a few of the beautiful things I’m coveting this year (some of which I own), that make perfect gifts for friends and family at any time of year…or perhaps just to yourself!
Laines of London slippers
If you’re gonna wear slippers , it has to be these.
L:A BRUKET Little Treats
Go for the small candles, lip balm, hand cream or room fragrance tags.
The Delli Kit
The wonderful selection on the DELLI market has something for everyone. And you can buy our granola there too 😉. This is my fave box
Violette Sparkly Yeux Paint Kit
I’ve mentioned this brand before - this super chic French cosmetics brand ticks all my boxes, and this Celestial Eyes Duo is perfect for festive days and nights.
Sophie Ward prints
Sophie’s prints are all over my house. She’s a friend and designed my logo. And she’s definitely the kindest coolest girl I know.
Land Clay Ceramics trinket trays
I just love, love LOVE these. They’re handmade in the UK and I’ve gifted a fair few. Definitely my go-to for year-round gifts.
Earthy Magnesium Spray
There are so many magnesium products about now but this (in my humble opinion) is one of the best. Totally natural and helps massively with sleep, muscle pain and keeping anxiety at bay. I have it by my bed and spray in on my feet and legs before bed.
Inoui Editions Scarves
This beautiful French brand has scarves, towels and accessories in the most gorgeous colours and prints. To be honest if you can’t find one you like I’ll be shocked. I tie scarves around my bags, To make them unique and a bit more interesting. Got my eye on the cushions too!
Whatever you’re doing this festive period, I hope you treat yourself. In any way you like. Take some time to rest up and look after yourself.
See you on the other side (1 month closer to Summer)
Big love
